Affirmations Failing You? Try Afformations

Are your affirmations failing you?

Maybe the trick is to use Afformations instead.

You may be asking yourself right now

What in the heck are afformations?
Has Cindy Lost her mind?

Really, I have not lost my mind. I’m talking about a fairly new method that brings affirmations to the next level.

You are probably used to the good old fashioned way of affirming what you want. For example you may make the following statements to your self …
“I am wealthy”
“I am debt free”
“I am happy”

You may have noticed that sometimes this technique works and other times it doesn’t.
Why is that?

According to Noah St John that’s because our mind normally works in questions – not in statements.

Think about it. Let’s say you’re over your head in debt. You can’t seem to get ahead. You can only afford to make the minimum payments and most of that goes to interest or late charges.

You really really want to get out of debt. So you say to yourself …
“I am debt Free”
“I am wealthy”

What’s the first thing your mind does?
It yells back at you “You’re crazy! You have all this debt, you’re not debt free and far from being wealthy.”

To make matters worse, the debt is getting higher and you are falling further and further behind …

And your mind is asking ..
“Why can’t I get ahead?”
“Why am I in so much debt?”
“Why did I allow myself to get this way?”
“Why can’t I save money?”
“Why am I doomed to be poor?”

Get the picture?
You talk to yourself in questions. The questions you continually ask yourself become a reality. Therefore to manifest what you want try using afformations in place of affirmations.

Using the example above you’d repeat the following questions …
“Why does my income exceed my expense?”
“Why am I debt free?”
“Why am I wealthy?”

When you ask yourself questions, your mind immediately goes to work trying to solve them – to make them a reality.

When you first begin using this technique, it’s interesting how calm you begin feeling. In a short period of time, you know that you will be able to achieve the reality you desire.

Give it a try …

What a neat twist. I am certainly going to try it.

  3. If you’re poor, and your affirmation is “I am wealthy”, why wouldn’t you be thinking of ways to become wealthy in the first place? If you weren’t actually brainstorming ways to make your affirmation a reality, what was the point of saying it? Just to feel good for a few seconds? To hear yourself speak? I don’t get it!

Then again, I absolutely hate affirmations ’cause I think they’re totally useless, so I’m a bit biased! I have an interesting blog post on my site that complete rips into using affirmations – “4 Reasons Positive Affirmations Are Delusional” – you might enjoy reading it for an alternative viewpoint!

    Matt,

Thanks for your viewpoint. I read your post and agree somewhat with what you’ve said.

I believe in affirmations and they have helped me tremendously in my life.

There are numerous people out there with low self-esteems. There are people out there that have been told their whole lifes that they will never get ahead in life. They were born into a poor family and there’s no way to get out of it.

It’s people like this that affirmations help. Especially the afformation technique – asking yourself questions.

You ask “Why wouldn’t you be thinking of ways to become wealthy?” If someone doesn’t believe they can be wealthy they are unable to see all of the opportunities available to them. Using an afformations such as “why am I wealthy?” Helps them to 1. believe they can be wealthy, 2. Gets their creative juices flowing where they are then able to see the various ways they can make money.

I agree totally that just affirming something doesn’t make it real. You do need to take action to achieve any goal. The affirmations and afformations just help you to believe you can achieve your goals.

I write about taking action in various posts such as in Thougts and Visualization – Are they Enough? and Take Action Every Day.
