They spend countless hours looking for affirmations that work.

Why is it that affirmations work for some people – but not for others?

It’s like you have your goals and aspirations telling you how to get what you want in one ear, While limiting beliefs about your confidence and ability to achieve them are screaming in your other ear.

The answer lays in your subconscious mind …

How confident you are

What you are comfortable receiving

What you really want – or don’t want

Consider this ….

There is a classic Bewitched episode where Tabitha turns a frog into a little boy. She was having a difficult time making him back into a frog after Samantha told her too. Since Samantha had stronger powers she began using several incantations to turn the boy back into a frog – yet still nothing worked.

Finally they figured out that none of the spells were working because Tabitha liked having a playmate – and really didn’t want him to turn back into a frog.

Think about this in your own life. You may be just be repeating words because you were told too – but deep down you are afraid of the change that will take place.

You’re not getting that new job, because your subconscious keeps reminding you that you are safe and secure in your present occupation. It would be unwise to change careers at this time in your life.

You’re not getting that new house, because your subconscious believes that the neighborhood is snotty and you wouldn’t fit in.

You’re not attracting the perfect man or woman into your life because deep inside you fear commitment. You’re not ready to give yourself to someone a hundred percent.

You’re subconscious doesn’t just gently remind you that the affirmation is not true right at this moment – it is SCREAMING to you that it is safer and easier to keep things just as they are, because it is trying to keep you in your “comfort zone.”

To manifest your affirmations your subconscious …

Needs to believe that can and will happen

Needs to believe that it is what you really – really want

Needs to be able to FEEL like you already have it

Needs to be able to visualize it

Affirmations are only one step to achieving your goals and creating the life you desire to live.

Affirmations that WORK are affirmations that you believe in and have the confidence to take the necessary actions to change. Your affirmations need to be worded in a way to replace limiting beliefs about your worthiness and ability to achieve your goals. Get a Confidence Booster to discover limiting beliefs that are keeping you from getting what you want and learn the affirmations that are right for you.

You can’t just be repeating your affirmations like an incantation. You need to repeat them out loud to yourself at least twice a day. You MUST put feeling into them. It’s the feelings and emotions you put with your affirmations that will make them work or not.

Without confidence and feeling – your subconscious simply won’t believe that you truly want the change.

Simply put affirmations are your own desires and goals that you repeat to yourself.

The idea is that you are embedding these thoughts/ideas into your subconscious. Once embedded these thoughts become beliefs and you will be inspired to take the required action to make these beliefs become reality.

By repeating your affirmations several times daily you are activating the Law of Attraction and you will be able to see the abundance of opportunities around you.

One of the most important things to remember when creating your affirmations is to use the present tense – not the future tense. The future does not make you act now. Stating affirmations in the future tells your subconscious it’s ok to procrastinate. By stating your affirmation in the present tense, you’re telling your subconscious to ACT NOW to make the affirmation a reality.

Who should use affirmations?

Anyone who dares to dream. If you are labeled as a dreamer than affirmations are for you! For affirmations to work you’ll need to commit to take action.

Why do some affirmations fail?

If you are skeptical or a black and white thinker affirmations probably won’t work for you. Why? Because your inner voices tell you they will not work, so you will sabotage yourself without giving the affirmations a fair chance.

Affirmation only serves to enforce what you do actually believe is possible. If you continuously repeat I am a millionaire and are working a minimum wage job struggling to pay your bills – Your subconscious is yelling at you each time you say you’re a millionaire …
“What are you talking about? Are you crazy? You barely have enough money for milk – how can you say you’re a millionaire?”

Another reason that affirmations may fail is because you don’t really want what you are affirming. You might be saying “I am smoke free”, but in reality you do not want to give up the enjoyment you get from smoking.

You are using affirmations half heatedly, saying them sometimes, but not making a habit of it – Or you’re affirmations are in someone else’s words. Words that you normally don’t speak.

You are stating your affirmations in the future. Your mind only knows NOW. If you say tomorrow, you’re subconscious will consistently put off what it is you are trying to affirm. Your affirmations need to be personal and in the present.

How do you make affirmations your reality?

They are your affirmations – Make them personal!

State your affirmations in the present

Repeat your affirmations to yourself daily – preferably out loud.

Visualize your affirmations. See it, Feel it, hear it, taste it … Be there

Avoid negative words such as “I will not”. Your subconscious does not recognize negative

Use the words “I choose”. “I choose to weigh 120 pounds”. “I choose to eat healthy”. “I choose to double my income” “I choose to exercise daily”.

Instead of saying “I am worthy” state “(your loved ones name) finds me worthy” this is a trick to get your mind to believe that you are worthy if you are currently unable to accept the “I am” at the present time.

Marie Diamond goes a step further by explaining not only how to create your affirmations – but tells you to write your affirmations on 3 X 5 cards and place them in specific locations in your home depending on your own personal Law of Attraction Number. On many occasions our words are uttered without conscious thought; in fact we rarely stop and think about what we are saying. Thousands of words pour out of our mouths each day as our thoughts, opinions, judgments and beliefs are freely expressed. Often, however, we are oblivious to the positive or negative effect these words have on ourselves and the people around us.

Words have tremendous power. Words give out energy and a message which creates a reaction in others. Everything you say produces an effect in the world. Whatever you say to someone else will produce some kind of an effect in that person. We are constantly creating something, either positive or negative with our words.

Reaction to our words often returns to us often in a multiplied form. For example if I speak words of judgment to a person they will judge me back, probably with more intensity as their judgment has the pain or anger caused by my words attached to it Words of kindness and acceptance will generate a warm and appreciative reaction in a person. That person’s response to the words will be stronger because it will have the emotion created by the words attached to it. The power of words has a ripple effect in our life and those around us.

Recently I came across the work of Dr Emoto, and his studies on water crystals. He took samples of water, froze them and took photographs of the water crystals. He then wrote words on vials of water taken from the same source. The crystals formed in the vials which had positive words, such as love and gratitude, were beautiful. However the crystals in the vials with negative words such as hate and evil were very different, and the water didn’t even form crystals in some instances. Experiments were done using words from different languages, and also by the scientists having no knowledge of what the words meant. The results were similar. More information can be found at by watching the movie “What The Bleep Do We Know”. Although I find the concepts of quantum physics difficult to grasp, the findings of this study on water crystals has had a profound impact on me. The human body is known to be composed of up to ninety percent water. If words had such a significant impact on water crystals, then what is the impact of positive and negative words to our bodies?

An important key to success in life is to understand the power of words. A word is a thought eternalized. Our thoughts do have a great effect on us even though they are internal. What we think effects the way we live our life, it effects our emotions, our attitudes and our behavior. A thought spoken, however, has even more power. It can never be taken back; it is out of our mouth and will have an effect. Our words have even more power than our thoughts because they not only affect ourselves, but the people and the world around us.

Successful people take control of their words, rather than letting their words control them. They are more conscious of their thoughts and words and the power they unleash. Successful people understand that they need to speak positively rather than negatively in order to see success. Successful people are characterized by the words that they speak. They know the importance of speaking words that will build self-esteem and confidence, build relationships and build possibilities. They speak words of affirmation, encouragement, love, acceptance and appreciation.

To see more personal success, the words that we speak need to be in alignment with what we want to see being produced in our life – our vision and our dreams. Your words can determine your destiny. Even more importantly, your words can make a positive difference on the people you interact with every day. Before you speak ask yourself: Is what I am about to say going to uplift the hearer? Will it inspire, motivate, and create forward momentum for them? Will it dissolve fear and create safety and trust? Will I create a positive or negative ripple effect by speaking out these words? Let’s be determined to unleash the power of words for positive change.

Without exaggerating – I honestly believe the mom said this to her daughter about 5 times during the half hour period we were in the lobby.

I cringed every time she told her daughter “You are such a klutz!” ….

I wanted to jump up and shout
“Why are you telling this precious child that she is a klutz?”
But instead, I decided to stay quiet.

For the life of me, I can never understand why parents tell their small children things like …

“You’re a klutz”

“You’re stupid”

“You’re no good”

“You’re to slow”

I also cannot understand why parents think that it’s so funny to have their small children say and do things that are/should be totally unacceptable – Such as …

“Go hit your mom”

“Tell your dad to shut up”

“Beat up your sister”

“Your mom is stupid”

“You don’t have to listen to your dad”

What are you thinking when you say and do these things???

Think for just a moment …

How would you feel if someone told you these things?

Will this behavior be just as cute when your child is 13?

If you continue to tell your child these things, Chances are your child will grow up to be exactly what you’ve been telling them. The little girl at the doctors office will grow up to be a klutz. After all she’s been told that she’s a klutz her whole life.

The child that has been told they are stupid their whole life will do terrible in school. They will not feel capable of getting good grades because they believe they are stupid – regardless of how intelligent they really are.

You’re probably saying …

“Yeah, right, What about all the successful people like Einstein who was told he was so dumb that he could never have a decent career.”

Or

“I was told I was stupid and I turned out ok.”

First off Einstein was an exception to the rule. He had an innate ability to believe in himself and to overcome what others were saying. And no one really knows what kind of mental anguish he may have gone through.

Second, Are you really ok? What did you do to overcome the negative remarks made to you?

Do you want your children to go through all the self doubt and challenges you did?

Do you know how the words you spoke affected the person?

Mean and hurtful words can be devastating. Words are powerful. The things you say have a huge impact on others. They can also affect you. Yes, Be careful of your words because they really do matter.

Think about all the mean and hurtful things you’ve told yourself. Have you ever called yourself, stupid, ugly, fat, lazy?

Why are you berating yourself?

Do you even realize that your subconscious mind processes EVERY single word you say?

Once you’ve programmed these harsh statements into your subconscious, they begin to grow like wild weeds into your conscious – the result? Lack of Self-Esteem.

Every word you utter to yourself eventually becomes a belief. For example if you continually tell yourself “I suck at baseball.” You will more than likely never catch a fly ball or hit a home-run. You’ve set yourself up to be defeated before you even start. By beginning a thought or sentence negatively, success can never be realized.

Remember, you can never take back a word – once spoken. Saying “I’m Sorry” will not erase the pain that the insults or mean words created. The person on the receiving end may have taken that “one word” to heart and be changed forever.

In today’s fast paced stressful world we tend to hurt others due to our own anger, frustration and disappointments. Instead of attacking others with words, why not use kind words to embrace, nurture and inspire others – to brighten someones day! Remember, One Kind Word can also change someones life forever.

The words we say and think can transform the very essence of who we are. When something”slips” out of our mouth – Know that it began as words that we told ourselves.

So many parents these days are destroying their children s self-esteem with unkind words. Kids are vulnerable to every word spoken to them. They believe every word spoke to them. Don’t discipline your child with unkind words – or call them stupid or idiot or ???

“If you can’t say something nice, then don’t say anything at all.”

THINK before you speak your next word. Choose your words wisely. Understand that one word can positively or negatively affect your life or someone else s life forever.

If you find yourself unable to “be nice” because of the stress in your life - Listen to these stress reducing CDs that will melt the stress from your body – It really works! GET YOUR FREE CD NOW. from Centerpointe and feel your stress melt away. The author stated that “words” can not hurt you. He goes on to clarify that it’s our perception of the meanings of the words that we allow to hurt us …

Yesterday I told you why I disagree with what has to say … Now I’ll tell you why I agree ….

In his article he states that if someone you love was calling you names in a language you didn’t understand, your feelings wouldn’t be hurt.

Well, naturally if we don’t understand something it doesn’t affect us. I also think that the actions of the person would speak to us. If they sounded angry or was yelling, we would be confused as to “what is wrong”. But the actual words couldn’t hurt us.

One of the reasons that I agree with the author in question, is due to my favorite quote ….

“No one can make you feel inferior without your permission.” Eleanor Roosevelt

Think about it. We give others a great stronghold over us. If they call us names, or say hurtful things to us and we take it to heart – then in essence we give them permission to hurt us.

If someone you didn’t like came up to you and said “That was a real stupid thing to do”. You might get angry at them but more than likely you’d shrug it off and say that person doesn’t know me from Adam – where’s he get off telling me anything.

On the other hand, if someone you loved and respected said “That was a real stupid thing to do”, you would be more inclined to take it to be true. It might hurt you and you might feel inferior for what you have done – or worse you might feel like you’ve let down the person you love.

The most important thing to remember is that you are human. You will make mistakes – That’s the only way that we grow.

Learn to Love yourself unconditionally. Accept yourself for whom you are. And don’t give anyone else permission over your feelings or your life.

Bottom Line: Words can and do hurt many people. They only stop hurting when we learn to take control of our lives and develop a healthy self-esteem.

The author stated that “words” can not hurt you. He goes on to clarify that it’s our perception of the meanings of the words that we allow to hurt us.

Though I do have to agree with him on some level, I also disagree.

First I’ll tell you why I disagree ….

We are constantly growing and changing through our lives. Sadly many people never reach the level where they are so self confident that they could one hundred percent care less what others say or think.

From young children we are taught “words hurt”. If a toddler or young child says something like “you’re ugly” “you’re fat” “you’re stupid” “I don’t like you” …

What is the child told?

“Honey, it’s not nice to say things like that – You’re going to hurt their feelings.”

I also believe that we all desire to be loved and accepted for whom we are. There have even been studies done, where the mom will disapprove or remove herself from her baby for a few minutes. The baby begins to withdraw without the love, affection and acceptance of its mother.

Studies show that 70 to 90 % of families in US are dysfunctional. You have to remember that dysfunctional can consist of several different factors …

Including but not limited to domestic violence, child abuse on all levels, mental illness, drug and alcohol addictions, cheating spouses and some studies include divorced parents.

As children going through all the drama of their family lives, very few grow up to have a healthy self-esteem. Lets face it most of us carry around a lot of “emotional baggage.”

As children we all want to please our parents. For some reason we feel that any and everything that happens to them is our fault …

Therefore as we grow older we continue to knock ourselves down. When someone calls us names or berates us, we feel like we deserve to be treated this way. The words make us feel worse about ourselves and the cycle continues ….

Words are POWERFUL. They have the power to BUILD and they have the power to DESTROY.

I think this phrase had to of come about by someone trying their best not to believe the hateful hurtful things said to them. It’s simply used as a self-defense mechanism.

Broken bones heal. But words can break a spirit that may never heal.

Why are words so powerful?

When we are repeatedly told something, our subconscious believes it – even if it’s a big fat lie!

For instance growing up I was consistently told …

“You are too fat to wear shorts.”

“My oldest and my youngest, my two heavy set kids.”

“You are going to grow up to be as fat as Aunt Evelyn”. (My aunt weighed over 400 pounds and was only 5’ tall.)

And as my maiden name was Bass the kids in the neighborhood used to love to chant “Cindy Bass has a fat A …”

Continuously hearing these words gave me a very negative self-image of my self. Regardless how little I weigh, I think I’m fat. I have struggled with my weight my entire life – as I have been determined NOT to be as fat as Aunt Evelyn.

Words do hurt.

If you choose to change – if you choose to undo the damage done by negative remarks said to you – TAKE HEART. You can reprogram your mind from all the negativity.

When negative thoughts creep into your mind, immediately reject them and replace them with a positive remark.
